How to add a Rocket League overlay in OBS

5-minute guide · Updated 6 October 2026 · OBS Studio, Streamlabs, XSplit, Meld
Short answer: turn on Rocket League's built-in Stats API (one line in TAStatsAPI.ini), then add your overlay link as a Browser source at 1920 × 1080 on top of your game capture. The overlay reads the game directly on your PC, so it reacts to goals, kickoffs and match results by itself. No mods, no BakkesMod and no extra program.

A Rocket League overlay is a transparent web page that sits on top of your gameplay in OBS. A good one shows the live score, plays a stinger when someone scores and gets out of the way during replays, all without you pressing anything. This guide uses Boostcast, but steps 1 and 3 are the same for any browser-based overlay.

What you need

Set it up in 5 steps

  1. Turn on the Rocket League Stats API

Close the game, open TAGame\Config\TAStatsAPI.ini in the install folder and set PacketSendRate=10 under [TAGame.MatchStatsExporter_TA]. The full walkthrough with file paths is in How to enable the Rocket League Stats API.

  2. Add a Browser source

In OBS, select your gameplay scene, click + under Sources › Browser and give it a name like "Boostcast". Put it above your game capture in the source list so it draws on top.

  3. Paste the link and set the size

Paste your overlay link into URL and set Width 1920 and Height 1080, even if you stream at 720p or 1440p. OBS scales it with the canvas. Leave Custom CSS as it is.

  4. Turn on audio

Tick Control audio via OBS so goal sounds and alert sounds appear as their own audio source in the mixer, where you can set the volume or monitor them.

  5. Start a match

Launch Rocket League and play, spectate or cast. The match intro slams in at kickoff, the scoreboard follows the score and goal stingers fire the moment the ball goes in. Everything else is set in the control panel in your browser, and changes show on stream instantly.

Tip: keep Shutdown source when not visible off. The browser source is also what reads the game, so if OBS shuts it down when you switch scenes, the overlay misses what happens while that scene is hidden.

Streamlabs, XSplit and Meld

It's the same in every app: add a Browser source (Streamlabs: Browser Source, XSplit: Webpage, Meld: Browser), paste the link and set 1920 × 1080. If you don't stream at all, you can open the link in a normal browser tab and use it as a second-screen scoreboard.

Placing and resizing elements

Don't crop or resize the browser source in OBS. Move the alerts, hype train, poll card and the other boxes in the layout editor in the control panel instead. It shows your real overlay, you drag the boxes where you want them, and the change applies on stream straight away.

Troubleshooting

The overlay is there but nothing happens in a match

The Stats API is probably off. Check that PacketSendRate is above 0 and that you restarted the game after editing the file. The control panel's status bar shows a green light for Rocket League once the game is sending data.

I hear no sounds

Tick Control audio via OBS on the browser source and check that the new audio source isn't muted in the mixer.

The overlay is blurry or in the wrong place

Right-click the source › Transform › Reset Transform, and make sure the source is 1920 × 1080.

The game stutters with the overlay on

Lower PacketSendRate to 5–10 when you play yourself. Higher rates make the game itself do more work.

FAQ

Do I need BakkesMod for a Rocket League overlay?

No. Boostcast uses Rocket League's official Stats API, which is built into the game. There's no mod, plugin or extra program to install.

What size should the browser source be?

1920 × 1080, whatever resolution you stream at. OBS scales it to your canvas.

Does it work with Streamlabs?

Yes. Any streaming app with a browser source works: OBS Studio, Streamlabs Desktop, XSplit and Meld.

Does the overlay work when I spectate or cast?

Yes. When you spectate, the scoreboard switches to blue/orange (you choose which team is shown first) and the caster HUD can show boost meters for every player.

Does it work on console?

No. The Stats API is only available in the PC version of Rocket League (Steam and Epic).

Try it on your stream

Boostcast is in beta and free for testers: match intros, goal stingers, a live scoreboard, caster HUD and Twitch alerts from one OBS browser source. No mods, no BakkesMod, nothing to install.
